I’m no apologist. I’m not a Bible scholar. I’m just someone who has been given the grace to see the beauty and truth of the Catholic Faith who wants to share it with others and help them better understand what Catholics really believe. There are many misconceptions about what Catholics believe and the reasons people have them are equally numerous. Perhaps, you’re someone who doesn’t believe Catholicism has anything to offer you. Ok, maybe not. But perhaps there’s something you haven’t considered. Maybe what you’ve heard or read doesn’t tell the real story. There are always two sides to every story, right? The same holds true here. Many of today’s divisions between Catholics and non-Catholics are due mainly to a misunderstanding of Catholic teachings and doctrines. If I believed what most non-Catholics think I believe, I probably wouldn’t be Catholic either. But if those same people knew what I really believe, they would know why I am Catholic. I could come up with countless reasons for being Catholic, but that would take up too much space here. However, I will give you a one-sentence summary of why I am Catholic. If asked, why are you Catholic, I would answer,
“I’m Catholic, because I believe, by virtue of the overwhelming historical and biblical evidence, that Catholicism is true, and that the Catholic Church is the visible, universal Church divinely established by our Lord Jesus Christ, against which the gates of hell cannot prevail, thereby possessing an authority to which I am bound in Christian duty to submit.”
